Viewing Plots of Results

Simulation results from CarSim, TruckSim, and BikeSim models are viewed with an integrated plotter. Results are also prepared for loading into MATLAB (binary MAT files), Excel (text CSV files), and other software for extended post-processing and analysis.

Plotting with WinEP

When CarSim simulates a test, over 500 output variables are computed. When simulating vehicles with trailers, there can be thousands of variables.

Any (or all) of those variables are written into a binary file for later viewing with the animator and plotter. All labeling information is written into a companion file, used by the plotter and animator to locate the variables in the data file, and also to generate labels for the plotter.

Viewing a set of plots involves a single click of the Plot button. WinEP immediately shows up to 8 window panes, each with up to 20 data sets. The plots can come from the current run, or be overlaid with up to 5 other runs.

Plot settings are kept in the same database as the CarSim vehicle and control parameters, using the same GUI. CarSim comes with about 200 pre-defined plot settings, and it is easy to modify any of them or create new ones.

Viewing Data with Excel, MATLAB, and Others

CarSim, TruckSim, and BikeSim include a converter for generating text files that load into Excel and other spreadsheet programs, or binary files that load directly into MATLAB. If you use one of these tools for everyday analysis, you will probably use the feature in our software to automatically convert the output data files automatically to allow instant loading of the data into Excel or MATLAB. View your data with the outside program using the pull-down menu at the bottom of the Run screen.

The converter can be set to transform any subset of variables, to avoid memory problems that can occur when trying to load large datasets into Excel.
